Since the inception of the carbine rifle, weapons storage and security racks have been designed specific to the weapons or weapons system to store (M12 rank for m16s' M240 racks for 240B and M249SAW machine guns)

With migration to the M4 Carbine and the proliferation of weapon mounted optics and electronics the standard weapons racks used through all branches of the military will no longer work. While modifying these racks will provide a temporary solution, weapons must be stripped of all attachments prior to storage, virtually impossible in an active armory.
